THE BRIDGE (formerly Southeast Angle and Seward Profile):
We support Meg Forney, candidate for city-wide Minneapolis Parks Commissioner.
Meg will champion protecting open spaces as reflected in her work on the Above the Falls Citizen Advisory Committee, and Midtown Greenway Land Use and Development Steering Committee. Her proven record of accomplishment and 27 year history of collaborative civic involvement are urgently needed on the Park Board.
We know Meg will work well with her fellow Commissioners, city and state elected officials, and all who support a strong Minneapolis park system and protection of open spaces. Leaders like Meg Forney who work across geographic lines on a bi-partisan baisis are needed now more than ever to assure a healthy future for Minneapolis Parks.
We urge a vote for Meg Forney for Park Board on November 8th.
On November 8th in the city-wide Park Board general election, I will be casting one of my votes for Meg Forney. I volunteered with Meg on the West Calhoun Neighborhood Council from 1999-2003 and succeeded her as Chair. Her views and hands-on work for the future of West Calhoun are continually being fulfilled because of her forward thinking, effective and responsive leadership. Meg’s twenty-seven year history of collaborative civic involvement is needed on the Park Board at this time. I know Meg will work well with her fellow commissioners, city and state elected officials, citizens of Minneapolis and others with an interest in a strong park system. Leaders like Meg Forney are needed today to assure a healthy future for our parks.
On November 8th in the at-large Park Board election, I will be casting my vote for Meg Forney. Meg’s 27-year history of collaborative civic involvement is needed on the Park Board. She just completed a one-and-a-half year term as chair of the Above the Falls Citizens Advisory Committee, has been appointed to over a dozen citizen advisory committees in the past ten years, and edited the People for Parks News for a number of years. What other candidate can match her involvement and demonstrated dedication to the park system? I know Meg will work well with her fellow commissioners, city and state officials, and Minneapolis citizens to develop a healthy future for our parks.
To accomplish that healthy future, Meg has ideas for updating the Park Board’s 40-year-old comprehensive plan to bring it more into line with the city’s changing demographics and increased demands for citizen involvement. To insure a healthy future for our parks, optimum citizen participation, and effective collaboration at all levels, join me in voting for Meg.
Meg Forney for citywide Park Board!
I cannot wait to vote for Meg Forney for citywide Park Board on November 8th! I have personally known Meg for 10 years. As a Park Board commissioner, I am confident she will bring creative and focused leadership to the park board. Meg will bring over 27 years of civic involvement to the Park Board, which is exactly what we need – a park commissioner who will listen to the residents of Minneapolis!
We need Meg Forney on the park board today in order secure a healthy future for our parks.
Vote for Meg Forney on November 8th for citywide park board commissioner!
Vote for Meg Forney in her race for Park Board Commissioner-at-Large.
I have served with Meg on the Minneapolis Committee on Urban Environment (CUE) and the Above the Falls Citizen Advisory Committee (AFCAC) where she demonstrated her ability to work with her colleagues and city staff.
Meg’s 27-year history of collaborative civic involvement is needed on the Park Board at this time. I know Meg will work well with her fellow commissioners, city and state elected officials, citizens of Minneapolis and others with an interest in a strong park system.
Vote for Meg Forney - Park Board At-Large
Meg Forney’s experience and vision makes her a top choice for Park Board Commissioner-at-Large. Meg is the only city-wide candidate to actually be appointed to any Park Board Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC). She recently chaired the Above the Falls CAC – a year and a half citizen process. This was her 2nd to chair and she has been appointed to over a dozen in the past 10 years. She is experienced in park process, issues, has working staff relationships from former Superintendents to Rec Directors, edited the People for Parks News for 10 years, served on City appointed committees regarding our urban environment. Meg is the best candidate to serve because she comes readied in knowledge, strong city wide relationships in all levels of government and with the proven skill sets to work collaboratively with her commissioner colleagues, citizens, staff, city as well as county and state officials. Meg will be an effective steward of our city’s park system and how citizens shape it.
A few years ago I had the privilege and opportunity to be appointed to andserve on the Committee on Urban Environment (CUE), with Meg Forney who is nowrunning for an at-large position on the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.CUE advises the City Council and Mayor on Park and other outdoor environmentissues. Meg is an outstanding candidate for Park Board and I urge my fellowNorthsiders to vote for her on November 8.
Meg has spent the better part of two decades working with People for Parks andwith CUE to beautify our parks, neighborhoods, and boulevardspro-environmentally. Meg is the only city-wide candidate to actually beappointed to any Park Board Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC). She just finished chairing the Above the Falls CAC, a year and a half citizen process. This was her 2nd to chair and she has been appointed to over a dozen in thepast 10 years. The Above the Falls CAC is a long-term effort that seeks tounite homeowners, recreational users, and environmentalists behind the plan.It seeks to reclaim and develop the Mississippi River in North Minneapolis sothat we on the Northside will be able to enjoy the riverfront, similar to whatour Downtown and Southside neighbors have long enjoyed. Meg will have my vote!
Tough choices surround Minneapolis’ park system. Our city’s “crown jewel” is at a critical point.
To meet financial and managerial challenges, will our parks be exploited further to become a branded asset, merging into the rest of the urban marketplace? Or, with engaged citizen input, comprehensive planning, creative leadership, and inspired management, will the heritage of our shared landscape face the future by adding value with renewed public participation and private initiative?
To address such definitive issues we need reasonable, innovative voices at the table. Meg Forney will bring such a temperament and perspective to the Minneapolis Park Board.
